Environment

The volunteering assignments at Mattli Antoniushaus demonstrate in a striking and tangible way what collective effort can achieve – for the house, its surroundings and the volunteers themselves.

After a brief introduction, volunteers will learn about the site and its history. Then it’s straight outside to begin weeding, pruning, planting, spreading gravel and plenty of digging. The focus is on mindful, nature-oriented maintenance. Biodiversity is specifically promoted so that valuable habitats are preserved and can continue to thrive.

With every passing hour, it becomes clearer what we’re creating together: well-maintained green spaces, inviting paths and a vibrant outdoor area that matters to both people and nature. At the same time, something else happens because while working, people get chatting and laugh together, support one another and enjoy the day as a team.

For the Mattli Antoniushaus, volunteer work means far more than just practical support. Above all, it is the encounters, the openness and the shared experience that are so enriching. The volunteers – often teams who find their way to us through UBS Helpetica – make a valuable contribution while also bringing new perspectives.

In the end, everyone takes something away. The house is better maintained, more diverse and more attractive, and nature benefits from work targeted at promoting biodiversity. The volunteers return home with new experiences, a sense of fulfillment and the knowledge that their efforts are visible and effective – above and beyond their usual daily work.
