Beverin Nature Park works together with farmers to preserve dry-stone walls. In Andeer on Alp Durnan, a historic dry-stone wall is to be renovated and preserved. The wall is located on a flat moor and borders the Lai Lung mountain lake, in the midst of a beautiful mountain landscape. The motto of the assignment is “learning by doing.” Learn the ancient craft of drywall construction under expert guidance and test what you have learned directly on a historic dry-stone wall. By taking part, you make a valuable contribution to the preservation of the landscape, cultural objects and the promotion of biodiversity.

The aim of the “bergversetzer” (“mountain volunteers”) organization is to support people in the mountain regions in Switzerland by arranging for individual volunteers to help them with projects. This includes tasks such as maintaining pastures and forests, ensuring the upkeep of paths as well as more complex tasks such as building dry stone walls or constructing sheds and stables.

Neophytes are plant species that were only introduced to a region after the discovery of America in 1492. Some of these are invasive species that can spread rapidly, displace native vegetation and endanger our health. Combatting invasive neophytes in protected landscapes is crucial for the preservation of biodiversity and the ecological balance. In Parc Ela, the largest nature park in Switzerland, the spread of invasive species is limited to the valley floor, where further spread has been prevented thanks to rigorous control in recent years. Together, we will support local stakeholders and help combat invasive species along the two rivers Landwasser and Albula very close to the Landwasser Viaduct.

The Neeracherried is a natural habitat for countless animals and plants – it contains populations of national importance and has more than 450 documented plant species. But these native populations are being increasingly threatened by invasive plants that have been introduced to the region. Unless we take measures to protect them, newcomers like golden rod could completely overwhelm weaker native species like orchids. It is not enough to regularly mow the reed meadows. The only way to preserve biodiversity effectively is by pulling out invasive plants by their roots.
