Tandem volunteering: Build connections, foster integration and discover new perspectives together!
Would you like to volunteer in the Basel region and make a real difference in someone’s life? The zRächtCho Tandem Program pairs volunteers with refugees and newly arrived migrants, fostering meaningful relationships built on mutual respect.
Personal connections foster trust, understanding and genuine relationships between people from different backgrounds. You’ll help someone find their footing in Switzerland, encourage social inclusion and play a direct role in their successful integration. At the same time, you’ll broaden your perspective, connect with new cultures and have valuable experiences you’ll remember for years to come.
This meaningful volunteer opportunity strengthens social cohesion, breaks down barriers and fosters lasting relationships that benefit everyone involved.

Duration:

  • 6 months, depending on your availability
  • Time commitment: approximately 1 hour per week.
  • Meeting times are arranged individually by each tandem pair

Location:

  • Basel region (Basel-Stadt and Basel-Landschaft).
  • Tandem partners decide where to meet

How it will work:

After registering, you’ll meet with the program coordination team for a personal introductory session, where you’ll learn more about the Tandem Program and have the opportunity to discuss your interests, expectations and availability.

We then carefully match you with a suitable tandem partner. Shared interests, language skills and location are taken into account during the matching process. Following an initial meeting, tandem partners organize their regular meetups themselves based on their individual preferences.

Throughout the program, the coordination team supports you and is available to help with any questions or challenges.

Introduction:

Before your first meeting, you’ll attend a personal orientation, where you’ll be given all the important information about the Tandem Program, your role as a volunteer and will be introduced to topics such as intercultural communication and respectful collaboration.

You’ll have access to helpful resources and reference materials. The program coordination team will be a reliable point of contact throughout your volunteer experience.

Support:

The coordination team supports you throughout the program. Regular check-ins provide opportunities for discussion, reflection and feedback.

If you have any questions or concerns, support is always available. In addition, zRächtCho organizes events and networking sessions where you can meet other volunteers and share experiences.
