Zeitgut Uster neighborhood help: members of the cooperative provide neighborhood help by contributing their time. Together with other institutions, we work to promote personal responsibility and a sense of community. People of all generations support each other when needed. As members of the Zeitgut Uster cooperative, beneficiaries receive support from the volunteers. The assistance provided in these tandems is compensated in the form of time credits.

Duration:

  • By arrangement. A maximum of 6 hours a week.
  • Depending on the tandem, fixed days/times or flexible arrangements can be agreed.

Location:

  • Uster and surroundings.
  • The tandem partners decide for themselves whether they want to volunteer in Uster and the surrounding area or further afield.

How it will work:

  • Tandem arrangements are flexible.
  • Tandem partners decide when and how often they meet, whether regularly or occasionally.
  • The type of support in a tandem is verbally agreed at the start, but can be changed by mutual agreement.

Introduction:

  • To begin with, an initial conversation takes place with the coordinator.
  • The volunteer learns more about membership of the Zeitgut cooperative and the opportunities to participate.
  • Before a specific assignment, a tandem interview takes place, during which the volunteer and beneficiary are introduced. Needs and expectations are clarified and if both people agree, the tandem is established. The coordinators are available to address any questions and concerns.

Support:

  • The coordinators are available to answer any questions you may have.
  • There is also a monthly meeting during which volunteers can discuss their experiences over coffee and cake.

Tasks:

  • Support with everyday life in the form of neighborhood help.
  • Examples: Cooking and eating together, assistance with office work, driving services, technical support, school tutoring, support with shopping or household chores, walks or bike rides or simply spending time together, chatting over a coffee.
  • The possibilities are manifold and your own ideas about possible tandems are very welcome.

What you’ll need:

  • There are no prerequisites.
  • What is important for an active membership is the time and desire to volunteer. As a beneficiary, you must be willing to accept support.
  • It is possible to engage in different tandems: only giving, only receiving, or both.
  • The tandems are based on mutual respect.
  • Passive memberships (without active involvement) and collective membership as an association/organization are also possible.

Note:

  • You must be a member of the Zeitgut Uster cooperative to benefit from the program.
  • Membership costs a one-time fee of CHF 100. Should you leave the cooperative, you can choose whether to have the contribution refunded or booked as a donation.

Voluntary actions are the basis of our social relationships. We would like to use some of our time in a meaningful way to help our neighbors. We believe that the reciprocity of our relationships with other people – through personal commitment, happiness and a sense of responsibility – enriches our lives and benefits society.
Tandems are at the heart of what we do. The members of the Zeitgut Uster (time credit Uster) cooperative receive support when needed (beneficiaries), and provide help and services (volunteers). The cooperative is a community based on solidarity, where we cultivate relationships and share experiences, show tolerance, respect and solidarity and receive support from our neighbors.
