Social issues
Residents are accompanied on walks in their local area. They form new acquaintances and find new things to talk about. You get to know elderly people and understand their thoughts and concerns, as well as developing your social skills.
Commitment:
2–2.5 hours per week (2:00 p.m–5:00 p.m) or by arrangement
(twice monthly is also possible)
How it will work:
- Volunteers meet at 2:00 p.m at b51
- Meet & greet with the “head volunteers” of the afternoon
- Meet & greet with the residents going for a walk
- Route is discussed
- Departure at 2:15 p.m
- A long or short walk in the local area, depending on the weather
- Return to the cafeteria for a chat
Introduction:
- Introductory meeting
- Volunteers are made aware of proper conduct with blind people (before/during the assignment)
Support:
On Wednesdays, either with head volunteers or with Mrs. Vreni Eugster
Tasks:
Accompanying residents, chatting with them, giving them your time
Requirements:
- You are at ease around people, namely the elderly
- You understand Swiss dialect and you speak German
- You are a good communicator
- Good physical health (no problems walking)
- You are mentally healthy
- You know when to give people space
Please bring:
- Weather-appropriate clothing, sturdy footwear
