obvita – go for walks with the elderly and the blind

St. Gallen

Social issues

Residents are accompanied on walks in their local area. They form new acquaintances and find new things to talk about. You get to know elderly people and understand their thoughts and concerns, as well as developing your social skills.

2–2.5 hours per week (2:00 p.m–5:00 p.m) or by arrangement
(twice monthly is also possible)

How it will work:
  • Volunteers meet at 2:00 p.m at b51
  • Meet & greet with the “head volunteers” of the afternoon
  • Meet & greet with the residents going for a walk
  • Route is discussed
  • Departure at 2:15 p.m
  • A long or short walk in the local area, depending on the weather
  • Return to the cafeteria for a chat
  • Introductory meeting
  • Volunteers are made aware of proper conduct with blind people (before/during the assignment)

On Wednesdays, either with head volunteers or with Mrs. Vreni Eugster
