Social issues
Residents are served in the cafeteria. They form new acquaintances and find new things to talk about. You get to know elderly people and understand their thoughts and concerns, as well as developing your social skills.
Commitment:
2.5–3 hours (afternoons from 2:00 p.m.)

How it will work:
- Volunteers meet at 2:00 p.m at b51
- Meet & greet with the “head volunteers” of the afternoon; discussion of who does what
- Chat, time for games, reading a newspaper, etc.
Introduction:
- Introductory meeting
- Volunteers are taught how to work with blind people either before or during the assignment, though we take a “learning by doing” approach
Support:
Either by head volunteers on the day of your assignment or with Mrs. Vreni Eugster
Tasks:
- Serving residents in the cafeteria
- Opening sugar / cream
- Chatting with residents, giving them your time and attention
Requirements:
- You are at ease around people, namely the elderly
- You understand Swiss dialect and you speak German
- You are a good communicator
- Good physical health (no problems walking)
- You are mentally healthy
- You know when to give people space
