Education

Support a group of refugees during their social and professional integration in Zurich.

As part of our group offers, you’ll be helping a group of refugees on a weekly basis. For example, you’ll teach German classes or support young people with their homework.

The offers enable refugees to make initial contact with people living in Zurich, help them establish a daily routine with meaningful activities, and support those participating in education and work integration programs achieve their personal goals.

Duration:

  • 2–3 hours a week for at least 6 months.
  • The day and time depend on the offer.

Location:

  • Assignment at an AOZ location in the city of Zurich, Adliswil, Affoltern am Albis or Brüttisellen.

How it will work:

  • Registration and subsequent initial consultation with an employee of the AOZ volunteering division.
  • You will then support the refugees through group activities.

Introduction:

  • Participation in a trial assignment and introduction to the group offer, one-month trial period.
  • Introductory evening in a group with other volunteers.

Support:

  • AOZ contact persons are available in the event of questions or uncertainties during the assignment.
  • Networking events with other volunteers.
  • Free trainings on various topics such as the asylum system, social welfare, proximity/distance, etc.

Tasks:

  • You’ll guide a group of refugees through the program.
  • For example, by helping young people in collective housing with homework or by designing basic German courses in collective accommodation.

What you’ll need:

  • You have enough time for a regular commitment.
  • You want to support refugees, are open for new cultures and experiences and are non-judgmental and respectful.
  • You are reliable, can carry out your assignments independently and take initiative.
  • You speak German to at least B1 level, know your way around Zurich and are at least 18 years old.
  • You see volunteering with refugees as an opportunity for mutual learning.
  • You are willing to sign an agreement and comply with the principles of volunteering with AOZ.

AOZ is a public organization with more than 2,000 employees. On behalf of the federal government, cantons, the city of Zurich and various municipalities, it provides specialist services in the field of migration and integration. The volunteering division works with people who volunteer to help refugees in various ways in the city of Zurich.
