By supporting the wheelchair curling section of the Curling Club Trois-Chêne in Thônex, you help people with disabilities stay active and pursue their passion under the best possible conditions. The players are able to deliver curling stones with remarkable precision and compete against standing teams, but they require assistance in moving the stones during training sessions and competitions.

This volunteering opportunity offers a rewarding and enriching experience, allowing you to discover inclusive sports firsthand and actively promote participation and equal opportunities. Whether in a friendly or competitive atmosphere, every helping hand contributes to making sport accessible to everyone.

Duration:

  • Training sessions on Mondays and/or Wednesdays from 6:20 PM to 8:30 PM and/or 8:30 PM to 10:30 PM
  • Weekly matches on varying dates and times; matches typically last around 2 hours

Location:

At the curling rink of the Curling Club Trois-Chêne / Geneva, Centre Sportif Sous-Moulin, Route de Sous-Moulin 39A, 1226 Thônex.

How it will work:

  • Arrive 5 minutes before the start.
  • Help slide the curling stones, keep wheelchairs stable, and contribute to a positive team spirit.
  • The activity ends after approximately 2 hours of play.

Introduction:

On the ice, in a unique and welcoming environment, you will spend time each week during the season from October to March with a team of wheelchair curlers and their standing opponents.

Support:

The wheelchair curling team will be present to explain how volunteers can assist and provide guidance throughout the activity.

Tasks:

  • Move curling stones across the ice to store them or position them for wheelchair athletes to deliver toward the target.
  • Hold players' wheelchairs steady to prevent movement during stone delivery.
  • Bring enthusiasm and positive energy, helping to create a friendly atmosphere and encouraging interaction between wheelchair athletes and standing players.

What you'll need:

No prior experience is required.

Note:

  • Good physical condition
  • Warm clothing suitable for an ice rink
  • Reasonably good balance and stability
