The ROCK YOUR LIFE! (RYL!) mentoring program has been helping young people in Switzerland make a successful start in their careers and integrate socially since 2013. Its focus is on young people with insufficient family support, a difficult socio-economic background and/or who are refugees.
In one-to-one mentoring, young adults mentor young people by helping them with their professional orientation. Mentors provide individual support and promote young people’s self-efficacy and social skills through regular one-on-one meetings.
The mentoring is supported by four training blocks, workshops on applying for a job and other offers.
Through your involvement you will experience interesting exchanges and get to know everyday lives very different to your own. You will learn how to develop potential and familiarize yourself with topics within the educational landscape.
Duration:
- Bi-weekly meetings with the young person over a year (March-March, approx. 60 hours per year).
- Together you will attend four training days.
- Participation in mentor trainings.
Location:
Possible throughout Switzerland in: Basel, Bern, Chur, Lucerne, St. Gallen, Zurich, Fribourg, Geneva, Lausanne, Lugano
How it will work:
- As a mentor, you will arrange bi-weekly meetings with the young person yourself.
- During your meetings with the mentee, you will go through the tasks step by step on the basis of the documents and accompany and support the mentee as they transition into the world of work and independence.
- Together you will attend four training days.
- Participation in mentor trainings.
Introduction:
- Training and courses held by experienced trainers.
- Introduction: 1- or 2-day preparatory training for your role as a mentor.
- BIZ information evening.
- Reflection meeting with other mentors including group counseling.
- Voluntary exchange with other mentors possible (meetups).
- Voluntary leisure activities with other mentoring pairs are possible.
Support:
- As a mentor, you will have a personal contact person and regular exchange (phone, WhatsApp, meeting) with a trained mentoring pair coordinator (MPK) at your side.
- Contact person on site: Site supervisor.
Tasks:
- Regular exchange/meeting with the mentee and working together on tasks to achieve goals.
- E.g., working through the documents provided, arranging and carrying out phone calls, research, interviews, accompaniment to appointments if necessary. In consultation with the young person according to their needs.
What you’ll need:
- You’re interested in professional orientation and coaching.
- You’re open and understanding towards the lives of young people.
- The desire to share your own experience and learn new things.
Note:
- Minimum B2/C1 German
- Second language extremely desirable
