PICTOMED’s key project is a web-based, non-verbal, visual communication tool to overcome language barriers in doctor-patient-communication.

We enable healthcare providers and patients who do not share a common language to communicate with ease, simply by pointing to pictures. We provide over 300 illustrations of medical symptoms.
We are looking for volunteers who can help us design medical illustrations. Well-designed illustrations enable healthcare providers and patients to overcome language barriers. Thereby, providing health equity which allows for social and economical integration of migrants and refugees.

Duration:

  • Flexible, but volunteering for a period of at least 6 months is preferable.
  • Time commitment: average of  3-5 hours per week.

Location:

Flexibel in Swiss cities or/and virtually by video conference.

How it will work:

  • Schedule a call or send me an e-mail to understand in brief the scope of your illustrations and collect information that needs to go into the illustrations. Collect templates and references from us. The sketches are here to help you, but feel free to put in your own creativity and develop them.
  • Keep me updated, don’t be shy to send unfinished sketches/illustrations for feedback. In general, if you’re meeting a dead end or get stuck with something, ask me for further explanation and reference.
  • Once reviewed, please send each drawing in a separate file, preferably with a transparent background in png format and 4:3 rectangular dimension (pixels need to be minimum 200 for width and 150 for height, but can be more than that).

Introduction:

Usually, we start with non-medical simple technical sketches to fill gaps and then move on to entire series according to skills and specific interests.

Support:

  • It’s good to have a tablet and pen to draw. However, we can’t provide you with it, so you need to use your own. You may use any graphic software that you are comfortable with.
  • We will provide information on all the content required, sketches and general instructions for layout and design..

Tasks:

  • Creative drawing of medical symptoms, investigations, interventions, treatment options, anatomy, health literacy and promotion. Each illustration should be delivered in a digital format.Time management: respect the timeline and if applicable deadline.

What you'll need:

  • All creative people who like to draw - no matter which background, race, gender, age or religion.

Note:

  • English, additional language skills are welcome.
  • Residency in Switzerland, but nationality may be any.
