The aim of the “bergversetzer” (“mountain volunteers”) organization is to support people in the mountain regions in Switzerland by arranging for individual volunteers to help them with projects.
This includes tasks such as maintaining pastures and forests, ensuring the upkeep of paths as well as more complex tasks such as building dry stone walls or constructing sheds and stables.

Duration:
- The assignment can last from one to five days, depending on the project and your availability.
- Assignments are mainly possible between April and October.
Location:
Throughout Switzerland, often in remote locations, as the assignments always take place in mountain areas.
How it works:
- Submit a request with details of the assignment duration and region and the number of employees.
- The bergversetzer organization coordinates with everyone involved until all the details of the assignment have been agreed. Assignment times are agreed depending on the location and journey.
- Employees can then sign up for the project.
Introduction:
The tasks are explained on site; the work can vary depending on the season and the weather.
Support:
The assignment is guided on site, but not constantly supervised.

What you’ll need:
- No special knowledge is required; it’s important to wear sturdy footwear (hiking boots that support the ankle) and appropriate clothing for physical work outdoors.

Good level of physical fitness, surefootedness as you’ll often be working on steep inclines/uneven terrain.
Notes:
- Volunteers must speak the local language in the assignment location.
- Volunteers are responsible for their own travel and meals.
- Volunteers are responsible for organizing their own insurance.

- You can specify your preferences for the deployment region and deployment days when making the request.

For more than 30 years, the “bergversetzer” (“mountain volunteers”) organization has been supporting people in the mountains by arranging for individual volunteers to help them with projects. “bergversetzer” is a joint project by Schweizer Berghilfe (Swiss Mountain Aid) and the Schweizerische Arbeitsgemeinschaft für die Berggebiete (SAB, or Swiss Center for Mountain Regions).
