Under the guidance of a mountain farmer, groups of up to 20 people lend a hand that require a lot of manual labor. This help is especially valuable as time-consuming and labor-intensive tasks can be completed more efficiently together. Participants experience work and everyday life on a mountain farm up close and work outside, surrounded by spectacular mountain scenery.
Contribute to a meaningful team activity combined with an unforgettable experience in the heart of the Swiss mountains.
Duration:
- An assignment lasts one day from approx. 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Various dates are possible from mid-April to the end of October
- Caritas organizes the date based on the availability of the farming family and the company
Location:
Multiple locations across Switzerland: Mountain farms in Eastern Switzerland, Central Switzerland, the Bernese Oberland and French-speaking Switzerland.
How it will work:
- Morning from around 8:30 a.m.:
Arrival at the mountain farm, welcome with coffee, tea and snack on the farm or the mountain, introduction to the work by the mountain farmers, breaks and drinks in the field, work in groups - Lunch break from 12:30 p.m.:
Meal with the farmer’s family, the food is usually cooked by the family and prepared using regional products. The mountain farming family presents their farm. - Afternoon from 2:00 p.m.:
Continuation of work in the field. Finish with an Apéro consisting of regional products. - The day ends at 5 p.m.
Introduction:
- The volunteers are instructed and supervised on site by the farming family.
- No preparation required.
Support:
- The volunteers are introduced to the tasks and instructed by the mountain farmer’s family.
- The family talks about their farm and their work in the mountains with all its joys and challenges.
- A Caritas representative will also be on site over lunchtime.
Tasks:
- There are various tasks that may be carried out during an assignment:
- Simple forestry tasks in the forest
- Removal of bushes in pastures and natural areas
- Clearing meadows and pastures of branches and stones
- Manual weed control
- Working on fences on pastures
What you’ll need:
- You are physically fit enough to work outside for a day
- You are surefooted on steep slopes
Note:
- Walking boots or non-slip shoes are obligatory
- Weather-appropriate clothing that may get dirty
- Sun protection
