Working together to preserve nature – and growing as a team in the process: As part of this corporate-volunteering assignment, you and your colleagues will help protect valuable natural areas at the Klingnau Reservoir. The assignment combines meaningful volunteer work with a team experience, time spent in nature and tangible environmental protection.
You will discover an ecologically valuable habitat, gain insights into the challenges of nature conservation and learn first-hand how targeted maintenance measures help preserve biodiversity. At the same time, through your efforts, you will make an effective contribution to the protection of rare animal and plant species. By working together, you will also strengthen team cohesion.
The floodplains at Klingnau Reservoir are of national importance and, with their open spaces, ponds and wetlands, provide valuable habitats for numerous rare animal and plant species. Species such as the yellow-bellied toad thrive in sunny bodies of water, while rare plants such as the Siberian iris or the marsh-spurge grow in the wetlands.
The assignment combines a meaningful voluntary contribution with practical learning outdoors. You will gain insights into the ecological importance of floodplain landscapes, learn more about biodiversity and discover specific management practices that are essential for the preservation of endangered habitats. At the same time, taking part improves awareness of the natural environment around the Klingnauer Reservoir – a benefit that lasts beyond the day of the event.
After the work ends, you can look forward to an exciting guided tour of the BirdLife Nature Center Klingnauer Reservoir, including nature observation.
Duration:
One-day assignment from 8:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.
Location:
- Klingnauer Reservoir Nature Center, Kleindöttingen (Canton of Aargau)
- Meeting point: inside the protected area; the exact meeting point will be provided before your assignment
How it will work:
- 8:30 a.m. Assembly at meeting point and welcome
- 8:45 a.m. Assignment: Removal and/or mowing of neophytes and problem plants
- 12:45 p.m. Walk to the BirdLife Nature Center
- 1:00 p.m. Lunch break with own packed lunch
- 1:30 p.m. Coffee and cake (offered by the Nature Center)
- 2:00 p.m. Guided tour of the Nature Center with wildlife observation
- 2:45 p.m. End of assignment
- Before the return journey, there is an opportunity to get changed at the Nature Center.
Introduction:
At the beginning, an experienced mentor from BirdLife will explain the tasks.
Support:
Volunteers will be assisted and accompanied by the BirdLife Nature Center Klingnauer Reservoir throughout the day.
Tasks:
As part of the nature project, you will help to:
- Remove invasive neophytes and other problem plants
- Pull up or mow the plants to maintain open, sun-exposed areas
What you'll need:
- Motivation to perform light physical work (around 4 hours).
- An interest in nature and environmental protection
- Team spirit and a willingness to work together outdoors in nature
Note:
- Weather-appropriate outdoor clothing
- Long-sleeved clothing (protection against scratches)
- Wellington boots or hiking/trekking shoes
- Your own food & drinks
- Sun and/or rain protection (headgear)
- If available: Gardening or work gloves
- Recommended: A change of clothes and shoes for the journey home

If you are allergic to plants or pollen, we recommend you bring an antihistamine with you.
