The Weerd-Fischergrien is a floodplain of national importance characterized by open areas with ponds that benefit rare species such as the yellow-bellied toad.
For the ponds to remain attractive to these species, they must receive plenty of sunlight, for which reason shrub growth must be prevented. To control these saplings (willows and poplars) effectively, they must be fully uprooted and removed.
