The Gippinger Grien is a floodplain of national importance, where rare species such as the Siberian iris and the marsh spurge grow in the reed meadows.
In addition to rare plants, neophytes also grow here – including imported plant species such as New York aster. These can spread rapidly and cause native, non-competitive species to disappear. To combat neophytes effectively, they must be removed together with the root before they can seed.
